I made a friend!

A couple nights ago Kat was at a cooking class and I was home alone, so I decided to catch up on my zombie killing with a little Left 4 Dead 2. After getting pretty bored with Singleplayer I hopped online to play some Scavenger missions and hopefully not get verbally harassed by a 12-year-old.

I have an intense phobia of using the headset on Xbox Live, mainly because everyone else on there sounds like a complete douchebag, stoner, or homophobic asshole. That or their mic cuts out every other word.

But one of the guys on my team was lively and interesting, not abusive or judgmental. He cracked jokes, he sucked at killing zombies as bad as I did, and he delighted in shooting the car with the alarm so that we all got mauled repeatedly. He started asking me questions, random "Would you rather?" type stuff, and it was pretty entertaining.

Then he asked me what I had to do in the morning, and I said, "Just go to work."

"You have a job?" he sounded absolutely floored.

"Yeah," I replied nervously. "Why, what do you have to do?"

"Just go to school and take some stupid army test."

"Army test? Like, ROTC or something?"

"Ha, no."

Whew! For a minute I thought I was bonding with a little kid-

"Jr. ROTC."

Awesome. I'm hanging out and developing a sarcastic man-crush on an 8th grader.

Dear Everyone in the World,

J.D. Salinger did a lot of stuff besides write Catcher in the Rye.

I promise. Look it up.

Give This a Listen

I know I've been posting nothing but YouTube links lately, but this one's even more annoying better: it's a YouTube video of a song!

I heard this on KCRW's Eclectic 24. And it's been stuck in my head ever since. Enjoy!

I Hate You and All That You Stand For

Someone please take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

This is Why I Suck.

Lady Behind the Desk at the Gym: Locker preference?

Me: What? Uh, Men's?

Me: Unless I can get wo-

Lady Behind the Desk at the Gym: You can't.

Me: Why ask, then?

Forget the workout. My first day at my brand new gym was a great start!

I Have the Coolest Job Ever.

So I just got back from Vegas where I was covering CES, and while it was a LOT of work, it was by far the most fun I've ever had on any business trip ever.

The company treated us right with hotel accommodations, limo to and from the airport, decent per diems, and all that, but just going to the show was awesome.

Yeah, the gadgety stuff was cool, but I for real spent a half hour signing autographs the last day. We were rockstars there for some reason, and it was really cool. People were asking to have photos taken with us and we were very happy to oblige.

Now I'm back home and my wife has yet to ask for my autograph. Still, it's nice to be in my own bed again. Even if it was 2 degrees last night.

By the by...

I'm in Vegas for awhile covering CES.

Pretty much any and everything I'll be writing will be going here, if you want to check it out.
